Art Tooth and The Collective Brewing Project are proud to announce the artwork of Andria Matlock on display Thursday, December 13 - January 2 as part of the feature series Art + Collective.
Artist Andria Matlock explores the intersecting worlds of fashion, design, photography, history, and fine art. Regarding herself “a graphic designer in photographer's clothing,” Matlock also moonlights as a painter, knitter, dancer, and art provocateur. Her dynamic and wide ranging practice incorporates a variety of media, including watercolor, digital and mixed media collage, and photography.
Her first solo exhibition with Art Tooth will feature examples from Matlock’s most recent series of digital and mixed media collages, which draw inspiration from the twelve astrological signs of the zodiac. In these works, Matlock expertly layers elements of her own photographs with historical images of burlesque dancers and pinup models and vintage illustrations of flora and fauna. These startling combinations paired with Matlock’s bold use of color, graphic elements, and pattern provoke a variety of rich interpretations.
Andria Matlock studied art and design at Texas Woman’s University and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. Her independent art consortium, Wild.Pop, produces editioned prints of her original collages, paintings, and photographs. Matlock currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas, where she works for the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
